The Statistical Office in Wrocław is pleased to introduce the publication „Demographic situation of Dolnośląskie Voivodship in 2017”, prepared within the publishing series Statistical Analyses.
The aim of this publication is to analyse the main trends in demographic processes, with particular emphasis on phenomena registered in 2017.
The basic thematic scope of the publication is the continuation and extension of the thematic sections of the annual publication „Population, natural migration and migration in Dolnośląskie Voivodship” and includes changes in the state and structure of the population; vital statistics (marriages, separations, divorces, births and deaths); the course and character of migration (internal and foreign for permanent residence).
Widely understood demographic potential is now considered an important factor of regional development. The growing importance of demographic determinants for the shaping of the socioeconomic situation of the region causes an increase in the demand for statistical data in this field.
The synthesis of information provided by basic demographic measures was published in the publication and made it possible to present the specifics of the demographic potential of Dolnośląskie Voivodship in comparison with other voivodships, in particular to determine the level of diversity of population changes in spatial layout (powiat, gmina) and identify negative phenomena - demographic threats.
Compared to the previous edition of the study, the classification of territorial units (powiats and gminas) to a specific demographic type was additionally made, using the Webb method for this purpose. In addition, the content of the publication has been extended to standardise selected indicators, eliminating in the comparative analysis the impact of differences in the population structure by age.
The publication also contains methodological notes, which present sources of information used in the publication and definitions of basic concepts and indicators.
Selected phenomena and observed trends are illustrated on cartograms and charts.
