Statistical Office in Wrocław belongs to public statistic services subordinated to the Central Statistical Office and acting on the base of:

• law dated 29th June 1995 on public statistics (Bulletin of Public Information / Law / Act on Official),
• instruction No. 11 of the President of the CSO dated 21st August 2012 on detailed scale of duties and organization of SO in Wroclaw (CSO Office Journal, item 38 with later amendments),
• law dated 21st November 2008 on civil service (Journal of Laws in 2022, item 1710),
• Organization Statute of Office.

According to above documents main duties of the SO in Wrocław include:

• organisation and conduct of statistical surveys as well as collection, gathering, storage and processing of statistical data for  statistical surveys conducted by the President of Central Statistical Office,
• recognition of demand for statistical information and analyses and presentation of results of this work in form of proposals  for all required elements of survey programme of official statistics,
• organization and conducting national censuses and statistical surveys of broad range of observation, including those with the participation of enumerators and statistical interviewers,
• conducting of analyses and generalisation of aggregate data and final information from statistical surveys,
• promotion and dissemination of statistical information about results of statistical surveys of official statistics, including basic figures and indicators,
• promotion of knowledge on statistics,
• administering country official registers:
   
         •  REGON - units of the national economy,
         •  TERYT - territorial division,
         in the part concerning Dolnośląskie Voivodship,

Completing the following national tasks for public statistics as a whole: 

• • • conducting methodological works on the development of regional statistics, and especially recognition of demand for statistical information in territorial arrangement,  
    • conducting research within the statistics of territorial self-governments and the statistics of product research,  
    • conducting works connected with administration of information stocks and metadata of Local Data Bank (including stocks of Regional Data Bank) as well as participating in conducting methodological works connected with its developing and upgrading,  
    • coordinating and conducting developmental works as regards informational system on euroregions within Polish borders in co-operation with the Centre of Transborder Regions and Euroregional Statistics of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów,  
    • co-operation in conducting transborder research with the Centre of Transborder Regions and Euroregional Statistics of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów and the statistical offices participating in completing the above tasks,  
    • participating in international co-operation as regards the statistics of euroregions.
