Statistical Office in Wrocław belongs to public statistic services subordinated to the Central Statistical Office and acting on the base of:

• law dated 29th June 1995 on public statistics (Bulletin of Public Information / Law / Act on Official),
• instruction No. 11 of the President of the CSO dated 21st August 2012 on detailed scale of duties and organization of SO in Wroclaw (CSO Office Journal, item 38 with later amendments),
• law dated 21st November 2008 on civil service (Journal of Laws in 2024, item 409),
• Organization Statute of Office.

According to above documents main duties of the SO in Wrocław include:

• transforming administrative collections into statistical data collections;

• collecting data, including from public administration information systems, gathering, processing and analysing statistical data;

• conducting work resulting from the Statistical survey programme of official statistics and the methodological work plan;

• conducting and implementing censuses and other surveys with a wide range of observations in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship;

• co-participating in conducting work on the methodology of statistical surveys concerning the  Dolnośląskie Voivodship;

• recognising and analysing the demand for statistical information and analyses in territorial sections in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship, as well as designing methods and forms of satisfying them;

• releasing and disseminating the resulting statistical information concerning the  Dolnośląskie Voivodship;

• conducting surveys and analyses significant from the point of view of the specificity of the Voivodship, including in cooperation with scientific and research units;

• providing information support to local government units and advisory and expert units cooperating with the local government;

• conducting work in the field of popularization and promotion of statistics and dissemination of knowledge about statistics, including conducting statistical education in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship;

• co-participation in conducting work for the needs of regional statistics studies;

• presenting statistical information concerning the area of ​​the Dolnośląskie Voivodship to government administration bodies, local government bodies and other recipients;

• conducting surveys, analytical and publishing activities in the area of ​​cross-border and Euroregional statistics in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship, in cooperation with Ośrodek Badań Obszarów Transgranicznych i Statystyki Euroregionalnej (The Research Center of the Cross-border Areas and Euroregional Statistics) of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów entre for Cross-border Areas and Euroregional Statistics of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów;

• maintaining the national register of business entities (REGON) in the scope of legal persons, organizational entities without legal personality and natural persons running economic activities (including private farms), local units as well as providing data from the REGON register;

• maintaining and providing data of the national official register of the territorial division of the country (TERYT) in the Lower Silesian Voivodship in the part covering the system of statistical regions and census enumeration areas and the address identification system of streets, real estates, buildings and dwelings;

• maintaining spatial address databases in the Lower Silesian Voivodship for the purposes of creating spatial operations, based on the data of the national official register of the territorial division of the country (TERYT);

• cooperation with government administration bodies and local government bodies in the Voivodship that maintain official registers and public administration information systems in the scope of providing source information for updating the registers and surveys maintained;

• conducting joint surveys with government or local government administration bodies, included at their request in the statistical survey programme of official statistics;

• administration of the IT infrastructure of public statistics services located in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship.

Completing the following national tasks for public statistics as a whole: 

• conducting statistical research:

• state authorities
• bodies of local government and municipal land,
• local government in the field of: forestry and environmental protection, housing and community, maintaining cleanliness and order, domestic transport, “green spaces”, fixed assets,
• units within the sector of public finances in the field of debts, liabilities, guarantees and bails, as well as selected financial assets,
• production of industrial goods;

• elaborating the statistics of the government and local government institutions sector, especially:

• performing analysis within the field of entity sector of government and local government institutions,
• conducting statistical research of the units within the sector, which do not belong to the units of the public finance sector,
• elaborating data and questionnaires according to applicable requirements of the European Union,
• preparing documents and materials for meetings and consultations fulfilling the needs of international cooperation, as well as participating in international meetings;
